Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned grade-level academic classes to prepare students for success in high school and college.
  • Help students to integrate reading and writing skills.
  • Help facilitate students’ communicative study and time management skills as well as assist in the development of test taking strategies.
  • Help students to build confidence in subject areas and help develop problem solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Create a learning environment that will facilitate the desire to learn and help students to gain self-motivation for self-improvement.
  • Help students to develop academic skills in preparation for the state mandated tests, i.e., NJSLA, PSAT, SAT/ACT.
  • Participate in the planning and delivery of team-teaching and thematic lesson plans with other instructors in the same subject area and/or grade level.
  • Submit typed lesson plans on time and in accordance with NJCB requirements.
  • Assist in developing and implementing the Consortium/GEAR UP Curriculum based on the New Jersey Common Core Standards for the program.
  • Maintain accurate academic records and files.
  • Assist in the administration, design, and evaluation of standardized diagnostic and placement tests as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or closely related field required; or in limited circumstances, the equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Experience: 

  • 2 years of related experience.

 

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Demonstrated ability to work with students of varying ages, cultures, and knowledge base.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas, principles, and concepts effectively in individual or small group settings.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills at an intermediate level including ability to utilize and apply Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as specialized software programs and computer applications essential to the learning process e.g. the College’s Learning Management System and ERP (Colleague)  
  • Knowledge of information research strategies.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and faculty.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to facilitate discussion and learning in individual, small group, and lab/instructional settings.
  • Fluency in a second language may be required.
  • Discipline specific skills test may be required.
  • Ability to travel to other sites as needed.

 

Preferred Qualifications & Special Considerations: 

 

Ability to travel locally to the Lincroft and Neptune Higher Education Centers. 

 

Daytime and weekend availability is needed.
