Overview

The Director of Web Services is responsible for providing strategy, design, development, maintenance, and reporting of Brookdale Community College’s main website (Brookdalecc.edu) as well as Brookdale’s Employee Hub (Internal SharePoint website). The Director is responsible for Brookdale’s website strategy plan, which will inform, recruit, and serve as a marketing medium for new students, parents, the community, and alumni to help drive enrollment and awareness of all Brookdale has to offer. The Director of Web Services will lead and ensure all website presences align with Brookdale’s strategic goals, enhance user experience, employ innovative technology and is secure from any cyber threats.

 

The Director is responsible for back- and front-end development of webpages on Brookdalecc.edu, developing all web code for Brookdalecc.edu, analyzing content strategy performance and interaction, and developing landing pages to link to our various digital marketing campaigns. The Director of Web Services will collaborate across departments to ensure consistency, accessibility, and innovation in Brookdale’s main website while maintaining web standards, ADA compliance, and brand consistency.

 

The Director of Web Services will liaise with the Office of Information Technology to update and maintain the MyBrookdale App and any other web-based Ellucian products launched by the College to enhance the student experience.

Responsibilities

Web Strategy:

  • Responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive website strategy for brookdalecc.edu, which will align with the College’s strategic and enrollment goals.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to ensure Brookdale’s web presence remains on brand, on-trend, and secure.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices in usability, accessibility (e.g., WCAG standards), and responsive design for all web pages.
  • Ensure web properties comply with legal and regulatory requirements, including ADA standards and data privacy laws.
  • Ensure and safeguard Brookdalecc.edu from cyber threats.
  • Conduct usability testing and analyze feedback to improve the user experience. (UX/UI designs/tests)
  • Generate reports quarterly on website performance using Google Analytics and web analytics.
  • Evaluate existing websites, create plans for improvements, and implement changes in collaboration with other departments across campus based on the website performance results.

 

Website Management: 

  • Design and implement new features and functionality for the College website.
  • Responsible for managing all webpage edits received from various constituents throughout the College.
  • Establishes and enforces branding guidelines and web best practices to the information architecture for each site or content management system (CMS).
  • Manages all technical aspects of College CMS (WordPress) and ensures high-performance and availability of the website.
  • Oversees and conducts web content updates and quality assurance to ensure adherence to college branding guidelines and collaborates with college vendors such as Ally Marketing, Ellucian, and other test users.
  • Performs debugging and website maintenance, fixing website issues, and locating and identifying potential issues.
  • Enhances webpage performance by staying up to date with SEO best practices.
  • Creates branded landing pages to help promote any specific advertising campaign.
  • Familiar with adding digital campaign code to specific web pages to track the success of digital campaigns.

 

Team Leadership

  • Supervises Part-Time Web Administrator.
  • Provide guidance on projects, set performance goals, and foster a collaborative environment with Part-Time Web Administrator.

 

Budget Management & Coordination

  • In conjunction with the Executive Director, College Relations, develop the Institutional Marketing’s website development budget priorities providing regular updates and reports.
  • Recommend cost-saving measures from evaluating vendors and contractor services.
  • Manages and monitors the monthly contract and relationship with external vendors like Ally Marketing who host Brookdalecc.edu.

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems, software engineering, or related field.
  • Masters preferred.

 

Experience: 

  •  5 years of experience as web developer, web programmer, software analyst, or similar position.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

 

  • Expertise in web development technologies such as HTML5, CSS, jQuery, JavaScript, PHP, or Python.
  • Proficiency with CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal).
  • Knowledge of SEO, Google Analytics, and web optimization tools.
  • Understanding of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Must be computer literate with ability to utilize Microsoft Office at an advanced level and the ability to learn and utilize specific higher education programs and systems.
  • Ability to learn and apply office practices, procedures, policies, and regulations that are essential to the position.
  • Strategic thinker with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work with a diverse population.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Knowledge of Ellucian Products such as Recruit and Experience a plus.
  • Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications.
  • Familiarity working with debugging tools like Firebug and Chrome Inspector, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers.
  • Demonstrated ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages.
  • Strong knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML).
  • Ability to travel within the county and state.
  • Knowledge of Monmouth County and its communities. 
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends and for attendance at Board meetings.
