Overview

Under the direction of the Director of the NJ Film Academy, the Program Manager is responsible for the management, development, scheduling, marketing, and implementation of film and television production programs. This position requires hands-on production experience to effectively guide students toward industry standards and career readiness. The Program Manager will leverage industry connections to develop training contracts and grant-funded opportunities while maintaining industry-standard labs and technology classrooms. The position requires active networking with production companies, studios, and local employers to provide marketing oversight and outreach to support revenue growth and meet annual targets established by the Director.

Responsibilities

Oversee Program Management, Development, and Implementation

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for expansion of film and television production programs, drawing on current industry practices and standards.
  • Create curriculum for entry-level and continuing education courses that reflect real-world production environments and workflows.
  • Oversee the development of hands-on production courses utilizing multiple delivery formats, including live productions and studio-based learning.
  • Assess industry training needs based on current production trends and develop courses to meet those demands.
  • Schedule production-oriented courses with attention to equipment availability and industry timing considerations.
  • Recruit and hire instructors with relevant production experience, and evaluate their presentation skills, classroom management, content knowledge, and program outcomes.
  • Negotiate contracts with third-party providers of training and industry professionals for guest lectures and master classes.
  • Network with local production companies, studios, and industry professionals to determine contract training needs.
  • Implement programs with support staff assistance, ensuring professional-level production quality.
  • Develop processes for student certifications that align with industry-recognized credentials.

 

Manage program compliance, assessment, and industry credentialing

  • Prepare documentation for industry certifying bodies and ensure compliance with grant funding requirements.
  • Oversee completion of production-related documentation that mirrors industry practices.
  • Maintain program credentials that align with state and national production standards.
  • Meet reporting requirements for outside funding organizations, including data collection on student retention, completion rates, and industry placement.
  • Aid in the completion of annual reports for grant-funded programs.
  • Develop assessment standards that measure student readiness for entry into the film and television industries.

 

Provide management and leadership

  • Coordinate with instructors regarding course materials and needs.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of the curriculum.
  • Collect and organize teaching materials.
  • Help procure instructors for courses as needed.

 

Provide marketing oversight and outreach to support revenue growth

  • Maintain and update all program-related files and documentation.
  • Take detailed notes during meetings and distribute as appropriate.
  • Prepare reports on program activities, enrollment, and outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain organized filing systems.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Film Production, or related field.
  • Three or more years of professional experience in television or film production.
  • Demonstrated experience with various production formats, including live production, studio-based production, and location shooting.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Requirements

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Must be computer literate with ability to utilize Microsoft Office at an intermediate level and the ability to learn and utilize specific higher education programs and systems.
  • Ability to learn and apply office practices, procedures, policies, and regulations that are essential to the position.
  • Ability to travel within the county and state.

 

Preferred Qualifications & Special Considerations: 

  • Knowledge of Monmouth County and its communities. 
  • Local and statewide travel required. Some evening and weekend work is required to accommodate production schedules.
