Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop curriculum, handouts and learning materials and resources.
  • Effectively teaches content and lecture.
  • Manages the classroom, facilitates discussion.
  • Create a community in the classroom that supports student success.
  • Provides feedback to students by assessing students’ readiness to take the GED exam.
  • Tutoring when necessary.
  • Administers test and quizzes and other learning tools.
  • Collaborate with Brookdale Testing Center to schedule students to take practice tests and GED Subject area tests.
  • Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.
  • Use of relevant technology to support instruction, which may include online GED resources, shared drives and documents, Canvas LMS, Colleague SIS, etc.
  • Update student progress in a shared document.
  • Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational and cultural backgrounds of students.
  • Supports students with post-secondary activities, including college, military or training admission or job placement.
  • Assist with pre and post testing assessments when needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field in the subject area required; or in limited circumstances, the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 years of related experience.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to work with students of varying ages, cultures, and knowledge base.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas, principles and concepts effectively in individual or small group settings.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills at an intermediate level including ability to utilize and apply Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as specialized software programs and computer applications essential to the learning process e.g. the College’s Learning Management System and ERP (Colleague).
  • Knowledge of information research strategies.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and faculty.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to facilitate discussion and learning in individual, small group, and lab/instructional settings.
  • Fluency in a second language may be required.
  • Discipline specific skills test may be required.
  • Ability to travel to other sites as needed.

 

Preferred Qualifications & Special Considerations: 

  • Knowledge of Monmouth County and its community. 
  • Occasional evening and weekend work and local travel may be required.
